Digital Project Life: Week 35

Hello again!

Sorry for my absence last week!  Up until this post I have typically been posting my Project Life spreads the Monday or Tuesday after the week I am documenting ends - giving me only 1-2 days to get my pages complete and blogged.  I've decided to delay my postings by one week, to give myself a bit more breathing room to get everything done.

The reason I had been giving myself such a small window of time previously was because I find if I don't get my pages done within a day or two of the week ending, my weeks start to run together in my head - even though I do a pretty good job of documenting to help keep myself straight.  I also like having my pages ready for The Mom Creative's Project Life Tuesday, so that pushed me to finish my pages quickly as well.

Things have been getting a bit busier around here lately though, and I have found it a real time crunch to get my pages completed and blogged in 2 days.  Especially with summer, and weekend trips, etc.  I decided to push posting my pages back a week.  I am still going to aim to actually complete them within a day or two of the week ending, just because that is what works best for me, so the week is still fresh in my mind.  But it will be nice to give myself some breathing room for coming up with a blog post!

So, onto my pages for Week 35!

Whole spread:

What Happened This Week: It was a pretty busy week - we had some appointments and errands to run throughout the week, and those seemed to eat up our days before we knew it.  My son had to start wearing an eye patch for a few hours a day, as well as a splint on his arm for short periods of time throughout the day.  I thought it was going to be a total disaster, but he has actually been super cooperative!  He is such an easy going little guy :)

We also got to visit with some out-of-town family for dinner one night, and had a pretty relaxing Labour Day weekend around here (for once!)  I made a trip to Chapters to get some sweet new notebooks... I am a total office supply/stationary junkie.  That may have been the highlight of my week.... haha!

Techniques Used: Once again, I used my squared edge template that I created, and like how my pages turned out a lot more than I did last week!  I also made my own journaling cards, since I went with a non-Project Life kit again this week, and just used a digital paper pack, which did not have any journaling cards in it.  They are basically just made out of the patterned papers from the kit, and white squares - pretty simple.  I also used some ghosted journaling boxes, and my usual techniques of brushes and journaling on photos.  The Instagram photo template with the rainy weather on the right side is a Cathy Zielske freebie :)

Overall Thoughts: Like I mentioned above, I really like the squared corner page template I used this week.  I'm not sure why I didn't like it last week.... maybe it was just the digital paper pack, or how I used my papers last week that I didn't like??  Who knows!  But I think I will give the squared edge template a few more weeks, and see what I think.  I also love the colours in my kit this week.  It has been fun using supplies other than my official Project Life kits.  I think I was getting into a bit of a rut with them...  I really don't know how people can use one kit through the whole year!  I give them major props!

Thanks for looking!  I will also be linking these pages up to The Mom Creative this week for Project Life Tuesday.

Digital Project Life: Week 34

Welcome to my Digital Project Life spreads for Week 34.  If you've been following my blog, you may noticed that I changed something up with my pages this week.

Whole Spread:

Left Side:

Right Side:

What Happened This WeekIt was a pretty normal week around here.  It was super hot and humid here most of the week, so there were multiple ice cream outings (not that there aren't any when it isn't super hot). This was one of my 'heavier' work weeks (3 days, poor me!), so it was "Daddy Daycare", as my husband likes to call it.  We went out with friends for dinner one night, and my cousin was nice enough to invite us to their pool on the weekend. It was an awesome day for it!  We had so much fun!

Techniques Used: More videos included this week.  Now that I've figured the whole QR code thing out, I've become addicted!  I am pretty late to the party on that one, but it is such a fun way to include a little more 'life' in my pages!  I also changed it up, and went with a template with squared corners, as opposed to the traditional rounded corners of the official Project Life templates.  (I created it myself, I was too cheap to pay for something that I could easily create).  I also stuck to the theme of the last few weeks, and used a digital paper pack (A Perfect Summer, by Lori Whitlock), instead of a Project Life kit.  Other than that, just used some brushes, photo templates, and did some journaling on photos.

Overall Thoughts: I'm not so sure what I think about the squared edges.  I thought I would for sure love the change, and the 'clean' look of it (I have really been into 'Clean and Simple' design, ever since taking a Cathy Zielske course by that same name).  I actually thought it would inspire me to switch to squared edges for the remainder of the year, but now I'm not so sure... Other than that, I like how the pages turned out.  I do feel like I am in a bit of a rut as to what I am putting on my pages though.  It feels very formulaic, which is nice in one way, because it makes putting the pages together easier, but I don't want them to seem too similar when I look back on them.  We'll see if I can come up with something different to include for next week!

I would love to hear any ideas you have!  Maybe a list of prompts, etc.?  Have you found any products with good prompts?  Do you like the squared or rounded edges better?  Help me decide which look I should go with next week :)

Digital Project Life: Week 33

Another busy and fun week. We have finally gotten some gorgeous weather around here, so spent a lot of time outside enjoying it.

Here are my pages from the past week!

Whole Spread:

Left Side:

Right Side:

What Happened This Week: This week was back to a little more normalcy.  A lot of time spent around the house, going to the park, going to the splash pad, and going for ice cream.  We also had pizza for supper 4 days this week... oops!  But one day was leftovers, and one day was because we were going out for dinner with people, and they wanted pizza.  Still...I think we are good on pizza for a little while! Haha!

Techniques Used: This week I finally used a QR code to link to a video!  It has been my goal to do that for months now!  The hardest part for me was just loading the video up to YouTube for some reason.  I used the QR code generator found here, which I found through Donna's blog (She posts adorable videos all the time).  Super easy, and fun!  Now that I know what I am doing, I hope to include a lot more videos in my pages. (Note: I have blurred the code here for privacy.)  Also, this week I used a paper pack again, instead of a Project Life kit, so I made/altered a lot of the journal cards I used.

Overall Thoughts: I love these pages!  I have somewhat gotten over the fact of using 'girly' colours on my pages which predominantly feature boys.  I love this paper pack, so I figured, I am just going to use it!  Plus, they are such summery colours, and with our beautiful weather this week, they just suited my mood perfectly.  I am just loving this project more and more every week!

Digital Project Life: Week 32

I am still in vacation mode here.  We spent a good chunk of last week up at a cabin that my in-laws had rented for the whole family. It was so nice and relaxing... I just didn't have the motivation to get my pages up earlier in the week like I usually do!  That's allowed in the summer though... :)

Lets take a look at my pages for this week!

Whole Spread:

Left Side:

Right Side:

What Happened This WeekLike I mentioned, we were up at a rented cabin for about half of the week.  We had a lot of fun!  The weather wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't horrible.  Par for the course for this summer, it seems.  We got in a lot of boating and tubing, and some waterskiing and wakeboarding.  Ate a lot of food, had naps...typical vacation things.  It was nice to be away for a few days.  Especially staying in a 'cabin' that is nicer than our house! Haha!  The days we were home were spent working, going to the library, a Costco trip, and hanging out with other family.

Techniques Used:  Brushes/journaling on photos, as well as creating or altering almost all of the journaling cards I used. I am loving the free Cathy Zielske Instagram journal card. So cute!  This week was also the first week in a long time that I used something other than a Becky Higgins Project Life kit for my pages.  I used to do this pretty often, before all of the new editions came out earlier this year, and I enjoyed doing it again!  I just love the colours in this kit, Identity by One Little Bird Designs.

Overall Thoughts: Super happy with these pages!  Like I said, I love the colours in this kit, and it was refreshing to use something new.  I LOVE all my Project Life kits, but it is a nice change to use something different once in a while.  Especially before all of the new kits will be released in the next little while.... which I will just have to buy! Haha!  Happy that I have a bit more journaling this week, as well.  I feel my pages have been lacking it in the last few weeks.

Digital Project Life: Week 31

We are just back from another fun, few days up at the lake!  My husband's parents rented a cabin for a week.  Unfortunately, we both have to work a few days this week, but after that we will be heading back up to the lake for another couple days!  I am loving summer more than usual, since I am only working part time, and have so much more time to enjoy it!

Here are my pages for Week 31 :)

Whole Spread:

Left Side:

Right Side:

What Happened This WeekThe first half of the week was fairly uneventful, and just normal everyday stuff.  On the weekend we were out at the lake, staying in a cabin with my husband's family for a few days.  So Friday/Saturday were spent just preparing for that.  I made some Mickey/Minnie Mouse cookies, that ended up taking waaay more time than I had originally intended!  Oh well, they turned out, and it was fun.  Then, it was relaxation time at the cabin!  The weather hasn't been the greatest, but that is kind of par for the course this summer it seems.  I don't mind gloomy weather though, so it suited me fine :)

Techniques Used:  Lots of brushes on photos.  I also used the Text on a Path function on the picture with the bowl of cherries. Fun!  I want to start learning Photoshop Elements a little better in the next while.  I have just taught myself the very basics, and want to be able to use it to its full abilities.

Overall Thoughts: For some reason I have been struggling to come up with journaling the last few weeks... which is weird for me.  I usually have a tendency to over explain things! Haha!  I think that is part of it is I have realized I don't need to explain every single thing on these pages... Sometimes the pictures explain things well enough, and I can get a bit redundant. But I also want to be sure I am capturing things with words, that I may not be able to capture though photos.  I think I am going to look back over some of my older pages and see what I was writing so much about before, and see if I am dropping the ball on something.  Extreme detail or not, I am so glad to have these pages documenting our life.  I was showing them to my sister-in-law at the cabin, and she was amazed at what I have so far, and what a great keepsake it is.  And it made me that much more grateful for all of the time I have been putting into keeping this up to date, and sticking with it - not that it has been that hard... I am, shockingly, still loving this project!
